Struggling With Sleep During Pregnancy? Here are 5 Tips for a Comfortable Sleep

Becoming a mother is one beautiful journey with lots of joy as you wait with bated breath to meet your baby. But some lows may come with this journey, and one of them is struggling with sleep. Sleep is essential during pregnancy, and walking around with heavy eyes makes it more tiring because you’re not getting enough of it. The following tips will ensure you get a restful sleep:

Use Pillows

It’s usually advisable to lie on your side during your third trimester, but this may be an uphill task for some. Your stomach tends to feel like it has fallen on one side, and you may feel like you are pressing it against the bed when sleeping. It’s an uncomfortable feeling, and you turn and toss, looking for relief.

This is where pillows become your best friend. Simply place a pillow or two between your knees for the best support. Many mothers swear by the pregnancy pillows; you can also wrap it around your knees to support your hips.

Set Up a Night Routine

You will be surprised how a relaxing night routine prepares you for a good night’s rest. Well, it may sound a bit hard for those who live in the moment, but it’s the go-to when you’re struggling with sleep. Your night routine can be as simple as taking a shower, catching up with your favorite book then going to sleep.

The night routine prompts your mind to start shutting off as you prepare to sleep. Stick to one routine for some time before you decide if it works for you.

Take Fewer Fluids Before Bed

Cutting down on fluids before bed minimizes bathroom breaks which may get in the way of a good night’s sleep. We all know how often you have to pee when pregnant, and drinking fluids before bed just increases the frequency. But before cutting your intake, ensure you stay hydrated during the day.

The trick is to have your last fluid three hours before bedtime and take a bathroom break immediately before bed.

Cool Down the Temperatures

Isn’t it weird how the body temperatures keep going up and down during pregnancy. From feeling cold and needing all the blankets to being sweaty in the next minute. It’s interesting how these insignificant inconveniences can disrupt your sleep. So, instead of sleeping while one leg is hanging out while the other one is in the blanket, try to spread out and prevent your limbs touching each other.

The ideal room temperature is between 15 to 20 degrees celsius, so you can invest in a fan to cool down the room, or turn down the AC for a restful sleep.

Take a Relaxing Bath

You can never go wrong with a nice warm bath, low lights and drops of your favorite essential oils. A warm bath helps is also good for relieving muscle and joint aches, and adding some epsom salt makes it a bliss.

In Closing

Following these five tips will help relieve your sleeping struggles, so, give them a try and see what works best for you. Remember to discuss with your doctor on more safe ways of overcoming sleep struggles.
